These are some benefits or cases where having a domain is very helpful:
1) If you are serious about a blogging career: If you are blogging for a space to just rant about random things or don't care if people reads it or not, you probably don't need a domain name. But if you see yourself wanting to be identified by your blog, it will be a good idea to have a domain.
2) Branding: If you are gonna blog as a serious thing, it will be better to have your own domain instead of free URL under blogspot.com. With your own domain, it is also possible to setup an email ID under your domain like contact (at) yourblog.com. It is just more professional and authentic that way.
3) Useful for long term: Suppose if you want to move to another blogging platform like WordPress in the future, ( maybe because you want more features and controls on your blog or because Google suddenly decided to shut down Blogger ) having your domain will help you a lot and save you from a lot of trouble and headache. Because your blog is identified by a custom domain name and not a free blgospot.com URL, you are on the safe side in either of those scenarios as long as you have the domain.
Otherwise, the work you put in bringing visitors to your blog will be lost because your free blogspot.com URL will only work with Blogger and the blogspot URLs you shared on social media sites or those indexed by search engines will not work and hence impacting the traffic to your newly migrated blog. Essentially, you will have to start from scratch if you did not have a custom domain and you switched to another blogging platform.
There are some other benefits which is mostly applicable if you are deep into blogging, but these are the major points for a starter to consider whether they should go for a custom domain or not.
Hope this helps,
Nigel

In that case, it would benefit you to have a custom domain.
You should also consider having an instagram page to share photos of your craft works ( and maybe a video timelapse of how you made it - people love to watch those ). It will help a lot to build an audience for your work and bring more visitors to your blog.
Feel free to reach out if you need any help and advice in the future.
